Jim's Devotional - October 27th

October 27th
Many times, people quote us. They say, “I heard you say this or that.” The problem is, that’s not what we said, that’s what they heard. We hear things through preconceived ideas. John wrote, in John 21:23, “Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?”

Many times, we perceive someone’s “sour” look as disapproval when in actuality they may have a headache or some other ailment completely unrelated to us.

James 1:19 says, “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;”

Let’s not be quick in making judgments or interpretations. Solomon, the book of Proverbs said, “The first one to plead his cause seems right, Until his neighbor comes and examines him” (Proverbs 18:17).
