Jim's Devotional - October 19th

Contract or Covenant.

Many of us have signed contracts. You know, a contract is an agreement between two parties that creates an obligation to perform (or not perform) a particular duty. Maybe we bought an automobile and signed a note with a lending institution. Or maybe we hired a service. One thing about a contract, we don’t even need to know the person or company with which we make a contract.

A covenant is vastly different than a contract. Marriage, for example, is a covenant. Ephesians 5:31, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

Also, we have a covenant with God, not a contract. Jesus prayed in John 17:20-22, “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:”

Praise God, we have a covenant with God, He is in us, and we are in Him. We KNOW Him.
