What does it look like when the most powerful being in the universe gets on his knees to serve? In John 13, we find one of the most striking and intimate moments in all of Scripture -- Jesus, knowing full well that betrayal, suffering, and death were hours away, chose to spend his final moments with his disciples not delivering a grand farewell address, but washing their feet. This was not a symbolic gesture stripped of meaning. In the culture of that day, foot washing was the task of the lowest servant in the household, and yet here is the King of kings, trading his robe for the garment of a slave.

What he was doing was not just an act of service -- it was a living definition of humility. He was showing us that in his kingdom, the values of this world are completely inverted. To become small is to become great. To serve is to lead. To be vulnerable is to be strong.

As we sit with this scene, we are invited to ask ourselves the same question Jesus asked his disciples: do we truly understand what he is doing? Because if we do, it changes everything about how we move through our workplaces, our relationships, and our everyday lives.
