Adam Sigman - 3/25/26
In this exploration of 2 Kings 5, we encounter Naaman, a mighty Syrian commander whose impressive credentials—military prowess, honor, and respect—are overshadowed by a single word: leper. This ancient story speaks directly to our modern struggle with identity and control. Naaman's journey from pride to healing reveals three critical mistakes we often make in our spiritual lives. First, he tried to solve his problem through natural means—bringing silver, gold, and letters of recommendation, thinking he could purchase his cure. How often do we attempt to earn God's grace through our own efforts? Second, he placed his faith in human power rather than divine intervention. Third, he had his own vision of how healing should occur, expecting a grand gesture rather than simple obedience. The turning point comes when Naaman surrenders his expectations and simply obeys—dipping seven times in the Jordan River. The water itself held no power; the miracle came through faith and obedience to God's word. This story challenges us to examine where we're standing in our own way, trying to orchestrate our healing and breakthrough according to our plans rather than God's higher ways. When we finally release control and make our lives about Jesus rather than ourselves, we position ourselves to witness the miraculous work only He can do.
