This message draws us into the dramatic story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath from 1 Kings 17, revealing a life-changing distinction between our resources and our Source. We're challenged to examine whether we've displaced God as our ultimate Source by elevating our jobs, bank accounts, education, or other provisions to the status of idols. The context is striking: King Ahab had led Israel into Baal worship, looking to this false god as the source of rain and harvest. When Elijah declared there would be no rain except by his word, he was directly confronting this idolatry and declaring that Jehovah alone is the true Source.

As we follow Elijah's journey from the drying brook Cherith where ravens fed him, to the home of a destitute widow with only enough for one final meal, we discover that God often proves His faithfulness most powerfully when our resources run dry. The widow faced a crucial decision: trust in what little she had left, or trust in the God of Israel. Her obedience to make bread for Elijah first resulted in supernatural provision that sustained her entire household for years. This story reminds us that sometimes God places us in environments of scarcity not just to bless us, but to make us a blessing to others.

When we understand that God is our unchanging Source while everything else is merely a resource that can disappear overnight, we're freed from anxiety and positioned to step out in faith even when our emotions scream fear.
